A Speaker Series Offering Education and Discussion about
All Things Eating Disorder and Body Image

FRIENDS: We are postponing all Eating Disorder Round Table events until it is safe to congregate. Wishing you wellness and health, and looking forward to seeing you all on the other side of this!

Are you interested in learning more about eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image from professionals who specialize?

Do you provide services to those with eating disorders or disordered eating and want to learn more about how to best support them?

Do you want more than the standard informational presentation?

Then you have come to the right place.

We are professionals who treat people with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns. Our goal here is to provide a space to learn about topics related to these issues. Our hope is for folks to come away with increased understanding about eating and body issues, as well as ideas for improving their relationship to body and food.

Once a month, we will provide a valuable-for-real-life, informational presentation by a speaker with expertise in this field (e.g., therapists, dietitians, and physicians). The presentations will cover a wide variety of topics related to eating disorders, disordered eating, and/or body image (see below). You will always have a chance to ask questions at the end.

These meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about eating disorders, disordered eating, body image and related concerns. This might include people struggling with eating disorders, those in recovery, those who know someone with an eating disorder, or those who treat people with eating disorders. Eating Disorders Round Table is a place for community. At the risk of sounding corny, everyone has a place at our table.

Ground Rules

We want you to feel safe to attend! It is a foundation of our work that this be a safe space for all. In service of this value, we have ground rules that will be covered at each meeting:

  • One person talks at a time
  • Use “I” statements that refer to you and your experience, not assuming others feel as you do
  • Be respectful of diversity in all expressions of differences
  • No rescuing… if someone is having feelings or expressing themselves, let them
  • It’s okay to be quiet or share… i.e. be yourself
  • No advice giving. If you do respond to someone, say something that shows you understand them, not want to fix them
  • Stretch yourself to learn and grow
  • We don’t talk about weighing or diets or weight
  • Be aware of your assumptions about weight, bodies and foodand allow your assumptions to be challenged

Round Table #4: The Joy of Movement has been postponed in response to the coronavirus. We will update you when it has been rescheduled.

Please join me for a discussion on the benefits of movement for eating disorder recovery. We will cover areas such as: ‘Why movement as a modality?’ ‘How do I shift my current mindset of exercise to a healthier one?’ And we may even have time to try out a movement skill or two together.

This talk is for anyone who at some time in their life has struggled with self-expression/body images. If you are a mental health practitioners looking for another way to connect to the experiences of their clients, this talk is also for you.

Movement/expressive dance is great for building trust, self-confidence, self-respect, and self-compassion. In addition, other known benefits include lowered blood pressure, improved insulin response, and decreased feelings of depression and anxiety.

Come and learn the joy of movement to add to your path of healing and growth! I hope to see you there!
